Double shooting in Brentwood; 1 dead, 1 critical

BRENTWOOD The victims were gunned down outside an indoor soccer field in Brentwood.

It's been the scene of deadly violence before.

Authorities have been trying to get a handle on the violence out there. Over the last couple of months, a 13- and 15-year-old have been shot in that area.

But despite their best efforts, police are now investigating a deadly shooting.

It happened on Timberline Drive just off Second Avenue on Wednesday night.

Witnesses say at least two men walked up to the victims and just shot them. One man, shot in the head at close range, died at the scene. He was later identified as David Sandler, 20, of Brentwood.

"I was in shock because two minutes earlier and I would have been right there. I was at work and I was mad because my coworker came late. But now it seems like it was the best thing that happened to me," one witness said.

Aaron Galan, also of Brentwood and Sandler's roommate, was critically wounded in the shooting. He remained in critical condition at the hospital on Thursday.

Last year, just a few blocks away, 13-year-old Wilson Batista was shot while playing basketball with his friends at Timberline Park.

Lasy November, 15-year-old Christopher Hamilton was shot and killed while he was with his friends, outside a house on American Boulevard, just blocks away from Wednesday's deadly violence.

Police are looking for two suspects:

  • One suspect is said to be 5'9", with a thin build. He was wearing a black sweatshirt.
  • The second suspect, also about 5'9", wearing a dark jacket.

Both fled the scene on foot, investigators said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
