Grandmother killed by SUV while walking grandchild

STATEN ISLAND The two were run over when it went out of control and crashed onto the sidewalk at Slosson Avenue and Windsor Road in the Castleton Corners section of Staten Island.

Just before noon, a black Tahoe and a gold Subaru crashed in the middle of the intersection.

The impact sent the Tahoe onto the sidewalk, wrapping it around a pole and hitting 59-year-old Beata Kurpiewski and her three-year-old grandson, as they walked to his pre-school.

The child in critical but stable condition.

Neighbors say it's a dangerous intersection, with a history of bad accidents.
