'Gumpathon' runners begin in Central Park

A run of over 3,500 miles across America began Monday afternoon in Central Park.

The event is more than just your average marathon, it's a unique event called a "Gumpathon".

It involves six runners from the United Kingdom.

They'll be following the trail of Forrest Gump, the fictional character who ran across the country in the 1994 Tom Hanks movie.

The runners from the U.K. are all veterans.

Some are even amputees.

They are running to raise money to benefit vets on both sides of the Atlantic.
