Teen suspect arrested in East Harlem rape attempt

NEW YORK

Kalief Jackson, 15, is now suspected in a string of sexual assaults and robberies, all of which took place in Manhattan.

Police believe he is the person caught by a camera early Sunday morning around the time a 34-year-old woman was attacked.

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. inside a residential building in East Harlem.

Authorities say Jackson shoved the woman to the ground and tried to rape her, but then ran off when she screamed.

The woman is expected to be okay.

Along with that incident, Jackson has bee linked to an attempted robbery that occurred around 8:30 p.m. on January 17. As an elevator reached the ground floor in a residential building, a 24-year-old female was approached by a person simulating a firearm. The victim entered the elevator, hit various buttons and began to scream. The suspect then fled on foot. No property was taken.

Police say Jackson is also connected to 11 other robberies in Manhattan, one of which involved a sexual assault.

He is charged with robbery, attempted rape and burglary.
