Animal welfare officials are looking for homes for 23 cats and kittens rescued from a Long Island residence.

Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross says one of the cats is pregnant, and another is nursing five kittens.

He says two kittens needed emergency surgery. Others were being treated for eye and respiratory infections.

They were rescued Wednesday in Centereach.
