ROOSEVELT ISLAND, New York (WABC) -- Firefighters raced to rescue two window washers hanging from a scaffold after it collapsed on Roosevelt Island late Wednesday morning.
It happened at a building on Main Street, and video from Citizen App showed the scaffolding had fallen on one side.
"When we pulled up, we saw two of the workers were suspended from the scaffolding," firefighter Nick Feeley said. "One was free hanging, dangling on the safety line, and the other one was still holding on to the scaffolding."
Firefighters first sent up their truck ladder before securing the men with ropes.
They were then able to pull them into the building through a window of an unoccupied apartment.
"They were upset, obviously, but they were calmer than I would've been," Feeley said.
The investigation is ongoing, but it appeared one of the motors on the scaffold malfunctioned, causing it to move faster on one side than the other.
No injuries were reported.
